The strong bonds of friendship and brotherhood in Alpha Phi Omega extend beyond working hard together at service projects. Most brothers and pledges spend a great deal of their free time with each other - at official APO parties and brotherhood events, on trips to visit graduated brothers, studying in the libraries, playing poker on Friday nights, or anything else one would do with their closest friends.

Brothers elect two Social Vice Presidents every semester to organize all major fraternity social events, including parties, snow tubing, movie nights, or even casino nights.

Friendships forged in APO do not end at graduation.  As alumni brothers move on to jobs outside of Charlottesville, they are not without their  APO friends for long.  Brothers and alumni trek across the country to visit their far away brothers, whether its Chicago, Nashville, Boston, Seattle or the Dominican Republic.  Alumni are also constant visitors, whether to attend major fraternity events such as Pledge Project or just in town to visit brothers.

Alpha Phi Omega's 2006 Spring Break - Brotherhood and Service in New Orleans

During Spring Break of 2006, nearly thirty APO brothers decided to take service to the road and head out to help in Katrina-ravaged New Orleans.

Living in tents with no electricity and two showers shared among 500 people, APO brothers worked tirelessly for a week on rebuilding efforts. Brothers spent most of their time gutting houses, filled with six months worth of waterlogged, moldy furniture, clothes and food-filled refrigerators.

After one stop at a Nashville Honky Tonk, the group arrived at the Common Ground Volunteer Headquarters in New Orleans.

Afterwards, brothers spent some time on Bourbon Street, visiting Tulane, and taking in the sights of New Orleans.

Brothers Skip Work to Visit Superbrother Headed Abroad -
from Mike Szlamowicz
John, Emily P (superbrother), Kindle, Brian and I went to visit Pat Leitch (superbrother) in Cleveland last summer prior to his going to England. The main purpose of the trip (other than seeing Pat) was to make a trip to Cedar Point, hailed as the world's most awesomest amusement park.
It lived up to its billing, and we had a great time skipping work for a few days, eating Quaker Steak and Lube wings, and exhausting every time-wasting road trip game ever invented.
